Central Oklahoma Hosts Colorado Christian

Bronchos Welcome Cougars For Three-Game Non-Conference Series Friday & Saturday In Edmond

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma returns home for a non-conference series with Colorado Christian this weekend, beginning with a doubleheader Friday afternoon.
 
The teams will play two seven-inning games Friday beginning at 1 p.m. A third and final game is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday. The teams were originally scheduled to play a four-game series before winter weather forced the adjustments.
 
Central Oklahoma is 6-2 this season and on a six-game win streak. The Bronchos opened the season with four games in Edmond and went 2-2, then this past weekend made a trip to Arkansas and went 4-0.
 
Colorado Christian is 2-5 this season. The Cougars of Lakewood, Colorado went to Alva, Oklahoma and dropped 3 of 4 at Northwestern Oklahoma State. CCU went 1-2 at home against MIAA rival Newman last weekend.
 
UCO AT THE PLATE
 
Central Oklahoma has a team batting average of .284 through eight games played. The Bronchos have scored 68 runs, 8.5 per game, on 79 hits, 9.9 per game, in two weeks of the new season.
 
Caden Robertson leads the team with a .385 batting average. The senior outfielder is 10-for-26 with four home runs and two doubles. He has 10 RBIs and has scored eight runs.
 
Ty Hammack, Ty Chapman, and Grant Randall all lead UCO with 11 hits apiece. Hammack has three doubles and one triple, Chapman has a team-high five doubles and one triple, and Randall has two extra-base hits. Robertson and Hammack, along with Garrett Long, all have 10 RBIs this season. Long (.280) is 7-for-25 with three home runs and one double.  
 
UCO ON THE MOUND
 
Central Oklahoma's pitching staff has combined for a 4.88 earned run average through two weeks of play. UCO has given up a total of 42 runs in eight games, 5.2 per game, and 63 total hits, 7.8 per game.
 
Starters Danny Satterlee (1-1) and Caleb Burchfield (2-0) both have a 3.00 ERA heading into this weekend.
 
Tristan Wittau leads UCO with nine strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work out of the bullpen. Valek Cisneros has eight Ks, Burchfield and fellow starter Brett Pense both have seven strikeouts.
 
Cisneros has two saves in three appearances this season. The senior closer became the second player in school history to reach 20 saves. The UCO record for career saves is 24 and the MIAA record is 25. Cisneros has 21 entering this weekend.
 
ABOUT CCU
 
Colorado Christian averages 6.4 runs per game and has a team batting average of .279 through seven games played. CCU has 64 total hits, 9.1 per game, and 45 total runs scored. Major Maydon leads the team with four home runs and 11 RBIs.
 
The CCU staff has an 8.48 team ERA, allowing 61 runs off 75 hits in seven games played. Saxton Sorenson has a team-high seven strikeouts in 8.1 innings of work.
 
UP NEXT
 
Central Oklahoma is scheduled to begin MIAA play next weekend with a three-game series at Washburn scheduled for Feb. 21-23. The Bronchos also have a three-game MIAA series at Emporia State Feb. 28 – March 1. Central returns home for a three-game league series with Pittsburg State March 7-9.
