No. 7 UCO Plays Two With Fort Smith

Bronchos Visit UAFS Wednesday, Host Lions Saturday

FORT SMITH, Ark. – No. 7 Central Oklahoma opens a two-game tangle with Arkansas Fort Smith on the road Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at the Stubblefield Center. The two squads meet against Saturday at 1 p.m. in Edmond at Hamilton Field House.
 
UCO is 19-3 this season with a 5-3 record in the MIAA. Fort Smith, which joined the league last season, is 13-8 overall and 3-5 in league play. Both teams are looking to get back in the win column. The Bronchos lost at No. 4 Nebraska Kearney on Saturday while Fort Smith lost there Thursday and at Fort Hays State on Saturday.
 
The Bronchos are in the midst of playing seven of their final 10 games on the road. Wednesday wraps up a three-game road swing and UCO will be back on the road next weekend as well.
 
Central Oklahoma enters the home-and-home with Fort Smith with one of the best offenses in the country. UCO ranks 13th nationally in total kills (1,048) and 10th in kills per set (14.3). Led by senior setter Lindsey Houran, the Bronchos are 12th in assists per set (13.38). Houran ranks fourth nationally in assists per set (11.60).
 
UCO's defense is also top notch. The Bronchos rank first in the country in digs per set (20.90) and are fourth in total digs (1,526) this season. Junior Kaitlyn Parrott, who was named MIAA Defensive Athlete of the Week on Monday, is No. 1 in Division II at 6.04 digs per set.
 
Sydney Huck leads UCO's offense with 3.89 kills per set this season. The senior from McKinney, Texas has 179 total kills in 15 matches this season. Mikiah Perdue adds 2.88 kills per set and Kamryn Glover is marginally behind at 2.87 kills per set. Kedron Burk (2.69), Sawyer Franz (2.62), and Lari Migliorino (2.53).
 
Defensively, in addition to Parrott's stellar play from the libero position, Riley Roberts adds 3.72 digs per set and Houran adds 3.47 per set. Perdue is leading the defense at the net with 0.95 blocks per set. She has a team-high 45 block assists and leads UCO with 24 solo blocks too. Burk adds 0.72 blocks per set and Migliorino 0.63 blocks per set.
 
Fort Smith welcomes UCO to Arkansas averaging 12.2 kills per set with a .203 hitting percentage. Defensively, UAFS averages 15.4 digs per set. Lydia Pitts leads the team with 2.86 kills per set while Crystal Smith averages 2.30 kills per set. Scarlette Young leads the team offense with 5.69 assists per set while Trinity Funderburk averages 3.78 assists per set. Abbey Jackson leads the defense with 3.85 digs per set.
 
Central Oklahoma and Fort Smith have played six times prior with both teams winning three matches. UAFS won twice in 2011 and 2012 and the first meeting as an MIAA school last year in Edmond. The Bronchos won twice in 2017 and 2018 and the second meeting last season in Fort Smith.
 
UCO will play at Central Missouri and Missouri Southern next weekend before returning to Hamilton Field House for the final two home matches Nov. 6-7 against Newman and Pittsburg State. The Bronchos end the regular season Nov. 14-15 at No. 2 Washburn and No. 25 Emporia State.
