UCO Earns 11th Consecutive AVCA Team Academic Award

Central Oklahoma Boasts Team GPA That Ranks In Top 20 Percent Of Division II

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Central Oklahoma is among a record number of volleyball programs to earn the AVCA Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT, it was announced Wednesday.

More than 1,400 collegiate and high school volleyball programs maintained a year-long grade point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale), to earn the award for their classroom excellence during the recently completed 2023-24 academic year.

For Central Oklahoma, the award is an annual tradition.

This year marks 11 consecutive years the UCO volleyball team has earned the AVCA Team Academic Award. UCO was also recognized this year on the AVCA Honor Roll, representing the top 20 percent of GPAs nationally by division.

"This award is a testament to our girls and how much work they put in off the court," UCO head volleyball coach Edgar Miraku said. "To be Top 25 on the court is a tremendous accomplishment, and to be in that same category with your academics, with all the demands of being a student-athlete, these girls need to be proud of what they accomplished. It's an incredible achievement."

Miraku took over the UCO program in 2012 and has a 269-90 record. He's guided the Bronchos to six 25-win seasons and the 11 consecutive AVCA Team Academic Awards.

Central Oklahoma begins the 2024 season Sept. 6-7 in San Angelo, Texas. The Bronchos make their home debut Sept. 19-21.
