UCO Races Sooners In OKC

Bronchos Finish Second In Conference Tuneup

OKLAHOMA CITY – Central Oklahoma got a tune up ahead of this month's conference championships with two races Saturday against the University of Oklahoma.

The Bronchos raced the Sooners in a Varsity 4+ and Varsity 8+ contest on the Oklahoma River. OU won both races by 17 seconds.

"We did testing all week so had minimal time in lineup," UCO head rowing coach Jen Gilbert said. "But we are excited to cement our lineups after the weekend that we will take to GNAC to try to qualify for nationals."

UCO is No. 2 in the country and will compete in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships May 18 in Sacramento, California. The Bronchos have won 2 of 3 GNAC titles since joining the league three years ago.

Saturday, Sydney Large led the Varsity 8+ boat that crossed the finish line in 7:25.50.

Samantha Hutchings, Carlota Martinez, Anya Landrowski, Raphaela Sanchez, Victoria Petschnig, Faith Brooks, Hope Brooks, and Lauren Clark made up the crew. OU finished in 7:10.27.

Emily Overholt led the fours and finished in 9:07.61. Sinead Quirke, Isabel Brown, Sawyer Schreiner, and Danielle Holle made up that crew. OU finished in 8:50.47.
