Bronchos Win Twice In Season Debut

Central Oklahoma Gets Wns From Freshman At Annual Head of the Oklahoma

OKLAHOMA CITY – Central Oklahoma began the fall portion of its 2025-26 rowing season with the Head of the Oklahoma Saturday and raced to a pair of victories during the day-long event.

The Bronchos won the Novice/Freshman 4+ Saturday morning and the Novice/Freshman 8+ Saturday afternoon.

"I'm proud of how our athletes showed up and executed this weekend," UCO head women's rowing coach Luke Reynolds said. "We set the tone for the rest of the season by racing with composure, grit, and belief. The performances from our freshmen in particular were outstanding. Winning both the novice 8+ and 4+ is a statement about the depth of this group and the bright future of the program."

Central Oklahoma's Varsity 8+ finished sixth and its 2V8+ seventh. The Varsity 4+ finished seventh and UCO's 2V4+ finished 16th.

The Novice/Freshman 4+ was first up on Saturday and the crew put together an incredible race, finishing 4,000 meters in 17:45. Second place Texas clocked a 19:17, Oklahoma State a 19:52, and Texas Tech 19:58. Five other crews were over the 20-minute mark.

In the Varsity 4+, UCO finished seventh with a time of 17:15. OU had the top six marks on the day and eight of the top nine along with the Central boat. UCO's 2V4+ recorded a 21:24.

Saturday afternoon, UCO's Novice/Freshman 8+ clocked a 17:37 ahead of Texas' 19:37. TCU and Colorado State were both over 20 minutes.

Central's last event on the water Saturday was the Varsity 8+ and the Bronchos were sixth and seventh with times of 16:26 and 17:24. OU had four of the top five along with Rhode Island ahead of the Bronchos.

UCO will continue fall head racing with a trip to Tulsa next Saturday, and a trip to Wichita State in November. The championship season begins in the spring semester. Central Oklahoma finished fifth at the 2024 NCAA Division II national championships, led by a national runner-up finish from the fours.
