Addison Wimmer Named D2CCA All-American

UCO Senior Earns Second Postseason Honor

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. – Central Oklahoma senior Addison Wimmer collected a second All-American honor Wednesday with the release of the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association Volleyball All-America teams.

Wimmer was named Third Team All-American. Earlier Wednesday, she was named Second Team All-American by the AVCA.

Wimmer is an outside hitter and six-rotation player and a senior for the UCO squad. The Yukon, Oklahoma native starred on the court this year for the Bronchos in leading them to the best season on record in school history.

UCO is 33-2 this year and preparing to play in the NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship national quarterfinals Thursday afternoon. The Bronchos are the No. 2 seed at the final site and will face No. 7 San Francisco State Thursday at 1:30 p.m.

The national semifinals are scheduled for Friday evening with the national championship set for Saturday night.

UCO set a school record for best start (18-0) and now most wins (33). This season is the first time UCO has advanced out of the regionals. The Bronchos won the Central Region championship with three-straight five-set wins, including knocking off host and No. 1 seed St. Cloud State after trailing 2-1 to the second-ranked team in the country.

Wimmer led the way for the Bronchos this season. She was named MIAA Offensive Athlete of the Week three times during the season, then MIAA Player of the Year following the season. A First Team All-MIAA pick, Wimmer led Central to the MIAA Championship with three consecutive wins in St. Joseph, Missouri, and she was named to the All-Tournament Team following the win.

Wimmer followed First Team All-MIAA with two First Team All-Region selections by the AVCA and the D2CCA.

This season, Wimmer has a team-high 383 kills in 35 matches played. She averages 3.30 kills per set through 116 sets on the court. And Wimmer hits .220 in her attack. The senior adds 20 service aces and averages 3.70 points per set in total.

Wimmer had a season-high 26 kills Oct. 26 at Missouri Southern and landed at least 20 kills in three matches (all UCO wins). She had double-digit kills in 21 matches this season, again, all UCO wins.

Being a six-rotation player, Wimmer is just as crucial on defense as she is offense for Central Oklahoma. She has 295 digs this season, 2.54 per set and the fourth-most on the team. She also has 43 blocks this season, 10 solo, to lead the team both at the net and on the back row.

Central Oklahoma takes on San Francisco State Thursday afternoon in the national quarterfinals. Angelo State and Gannon will also play on the same side of the eight-team bracket and the two winners will meet Friday evening in the semifinals. Ferris State plays Bentley and Lynn meets Wingate on the opposite side of the bracket. Those two winners will meet in the other semifinal. The national championship match is scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday from the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls.
