No. 13 Central Oklahoma Visits Missouri Southern, Central Missouri

Bronchos Take 15-0 Record On The Road In Week 5

JOPLIN, Mo. – No. 13 Central Oklahoma hits the road for MIAA competition this weekend when the Bronchos take on Missouri Southern and Central Missouri for two league contests.

The Bronchos are 15-0 this season and have a 2-0 record in the MIAA. Missouri Southern is 2-11 overall and 0-2 in league play. Central Missouri, which is receiving votes just outside the AVCA Top 25, is 5-6 overall and 1-1 in the MIAA.

"Both of these teams have really good programs, and you can throw the records out when you play on the road," UCO head volleyball coach Edgar Miraku said. "Missouri Southern ended our season last year and Central Missouri is a contender every year. We have to be sharp, focused, and we have to execute to our ability."

Central Oklahoma has been dominant on the court through four weeks of the 2024 season. The Bronchos' 15-0 record is the best mark in the country. Of seven remaining unbeaten programs in Division II, UCO has the most wins.

Central Oklahoma hits the road this week boasting a .303 hitting percentage and averaging 14.9 kills per set. The Bronchos rank first in the MIAA and fourth in the country in both statistics. The Bronchos also rank second in the MIAA and fourth in the country in assists per set at 13.96.

Defensively, Central limits opponents to a .133 hitting percentage, which ranks 23rd nationally. UCO is 35th and 43rd respectively in total digs and total blocks.

Lindsey Houran is setting up the high-powered offense for the Bronchos. The junior setter ranks 15th in the country at 11.06 assists per set, and 21st in total assists (520) through four weeks of play.

Houran has four players she sets with more than 100 kills so far this season. Addison Wimmer leads the team at 153 in 15 matches played (47 sets). The senior averages 3.26 per set and hits .267 for the season. Jenna Karp has 134 kills in 12 matches played (40 sets) and averages a team-high 3.35 per set while hitting an astonishing .463 this season. Sydney Huck has 126 kills, 3.23 per set, with a .269 hitting percentage. And Mikaela Garvin has 107, 2.55 per set, with a .280 hitting percentage.

Karp's hitting percentage doesn't just lead the team. It's the best mark in the MIAA and ranks fourth nationally. The senior middle blocker also has a team-high 35 blocks and averages 0.88 per set.

Lari Migliorino has 33 total blocks on the year and averages 0.94 per set. Garvin has 32 blocks, 0.76 per set, and Mikiah Perdue 32, with a team-high 0.97 per set.

On the back row, it's Katie Le leading the way. The senior libero has 246 digs, 4.92 per set, through 50 sets played this season. Houran adds 129 and Riley Roberts has 107. Le ranks 36th nationally in digs per set and 26th in total digs.

Central Oklahoma is just beginning a four-game road swing with this weekend's matches. The Bronchos will travel to Northwest Missouri and Missouri Western next weekend. UCO is playing 5 of 8 matches in October away from home. Central returns for Oct. 17 & 19 with Fort Hays State and Nebraska Kearney, and will wrap up the month with a home-and-home swing with new league member Arkansas Fort Smith Oct. 23 (Edmond) and Oct. 26 (Fort Smith).
