Central Oklahoma, now ranked No. 17 in the country, beat previously ranked No. 8 Nebraska Kearney 3-1 on Friday night before turning back Fort Hays State 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. UNK, which also lost at Pittsburg State over the weekend, is now ranked 10th.

The Bronchos improved to 20-3 overall with the two wins, and UCO is now 11-2 in the MIAA and just a half-game back of first-place Central Missouri.

Central Oklahoma is on the road this week for three MIAA contests that culminate with another big showdown. The Bronchos visit Newman on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in Wichita, Kansas. UCO will return home for a couple of days before taking off for Missouri Southern, Friday in Joplin, and then, Central Missouri Saturday in Warrensburg.

UCO lost to Nebraska Kearney earlier this season in Nebraska, and the Bronchos also have a loss to Central Missouri in Edmond. Central Oklahoma has a chance to not only avenge its second conference loss this Saturday, but also sneak back into first place in the league standings as the 2023 regular season winds down.

There are just three weeks left in the regular season. The 2023 MIAA Volleyball Championship is scheduled for Nov. 16-18 in St. Joseph, Mo. The top eight teams in the league make the postseason tournament and a winner will be crowned Nov. 18 inside the St. Joseph Civic Center.

Central Oklahoma is on the road for three matches this week, then travels to No. 25 Washburn and Emporia State on the first weekend in November to wrap up a five-game road trip. The Bronchos finish the regular season with Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri Nov. 10-11 in Edmond at Hamilton Field House.
