UCO Sweeps MIAA Volleyball Player of Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Sept. 6) – Central Oklahoma swept Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association volleyball player of the week honors, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Jaedynn Evans was named Defensive Player of the Week, while Lindsey Houran took Setter of the Week honors and Sydney Huck Offensive Player of the Week accolades.

Evans came up big with her back-row defense in a 5-0 week for the Bronchos, averaging 8.11 digs per set in finishing with 154 in 19 sets. The sophomore libero from Kalona, Iowa had 30-plus digs in four of the five matches, collecting 35 against Southern Nazarene and East Central and 30 against St. Mary's and Southeastern Oklahoma.

Houran racked up 246 assists, averaging 12.95 per set during the week. The freshman from Colleyville, Texas added 11 kills, 51 digs, four service aces and three blocks in the five matches. Houran had three matches with 50-plus assists, collecting 55 against St. Mary's, 52 against Southern Nazarene and 52 against Oklahoma Christian.

Huck dominating offensively, knocking down 74 kills (4.35/set) while also tallying six service aces and 45 digs (2.65/set). The rookie from McKinney, Texas had 22 kills and 9 digs in a four-set win over Southern Nazarene and 20 kills with 17 digs in a four-set victory over Oklahoma Christian.

The Bronchos, 9-0 on the season, finish the non-conference schedule Tuesday night with a 7 p.m. match against Oklahoma Baptist in Shawnee.
