UCO Picked Fifth In MIAA Volleyball Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Aug. 19) -- Central Oklahoma is tabbed for a fifth-place finish in the 2022 Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association volleyball standings, according the preseason poll released by the conference office Friday.

The Bronchos of 11th-year head coach Edgar Miraku finished with 60 points in balloting of the league's 11 head coaches. Northwest Missouri earned the favorite's tag with three first-place votes and 90 points.

Defending champion Central Missouri, Nebraska-Kearney and Washburn tied for second in the poll, each finished with 85 points. UNK and WU had three first-place votes, while the Jennies had two.

UCO was fifth, followed by Pittsburg State (55 points), Fort Hays State (44), Missouri Western (43), Emporia State (21), Missouri Southern (20) and Newman (16).

Central finished fifth in the conference last year, going 19-10 overall and 12-8 in the league.

The Bronchos open the season next week, traveling to Marquette, Mich. for four matches in the Northern Michigan Invitational Aug. 26-27. UCO makes its home debut Aug. 31 against East Central and opens the MIAA schedule Sept. 9 at home against Pitt State.
