UCO Headed To Drury Classic

No. 13-ranked Central Oklahoma puts a lengthy winning streak on the line this weekend when the Bronchos trek to Springfield, Mo. for the Drury Softball Classic.

UCO, 14-2 on the season and winners of 12 straight, will play two games against both the host Panthers and Southwest Baptist. The Bronchos are set to meet SBU (2-7) at 12 p.m. and Drury (9-5) at 4 p.m on Saturday before coming back Sunday to play the Bearcats at 11 a.m. and DU at 4 p.m.

"We've played pretty well the last few weeks and hopefully we can keep that up this weekend," head coach Cody White said. "There's still a lot of work to do, but I like the progress we've made and the way the team is working to get better."

The Bronchos swept a road doubleheader from Midwestern State Wednesday in their latest outing. UCO is averaging 6.7 runs and 8.8 hits a game while hitting .341 as a team.

Three players have a .400-plus average – Jacee Minter (.490, eight doubles, 24 RBI), Brighton Gilbert (.420, five stolen bases) and Shayleigh Odom (.400, 22 RBI).

Kylee Lynch paces the pitching staff. The sophomore standout is 9-0 with a 2.35 earned run average and has walked just nine batters in 61 1/3 innings.

Central owns a 3-0 series lead over Drury, winning meetings in 2011, '12 and '13. The Bronchos have a big 24-6 advantage over SBU in a rivalry that started in 1988 and have won the last six meetings.
