Bronchos Travel To Kansas For Two Matches

No. 19-ranked Central Oklahoma completes a three-match Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association road trip this weekend with matches against No. 12 Washburn and Emporia State.

The Bronchos, 20-4 overall and 10-4 in the conference, go to Topeka, Kan. Friday for a 6 p.m. showdown against the Ichabods (18-4, 10-4) before moving on to Emporia, Kan. to take on Emporia State (4-19, 1-13) at 3 p.m. Saturday.

UCO will be looking to rebound from a stunning three-set road loss to Missouri Southern on Tuesday.

"We're coming off our worst match of the year, but need to put that behind us and get ready for this weekend," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "Washburn is one of the best teams in the country so that's obviously a big challenge and Emporia always plays us tough, so we have to be ready to play."

The Bronchos beat both teams in this year's first meeting, upsetting Washburn in four sets on Sept. 22 before sweeping the Hornets the next day.

Washburn – runner-up in last year's Division II national tournament – has won six of its last seven matches and routed Emporia in its last outing.

Five players have 100-plus kills from the Ichabods, led by Jalyn Stevenson (230) and Halle Meister (188).

Emporia, which has has lost its last 10 matches, is paced by Leah Mach (227 kills) and Orianna Clements (156 kills).

UCO has three players with 200-plus kills – Sydney Huck (374), Mallorie Koehn (272) and Jenna Karp (207).

Jaedynn Evans has a Division II-leading 602 digs, which ranks eighth on UCO's single-season list. And Lindsey Houran tops the nation in total assists with 1,079, averaging 11.86 per set.

The Bronchos return to Edmond next week for their final two home matches of the season, hosting Central Missouri Thursday and Missouri Western Friday.
