UCO Advances To Semifinals

TOPEKA, Kan. - The University of Central Oklahoma volleyball team won its second game of the day to earn a spot in the MIAA Spring Volleyball Tournament semifinals, with the Bronchos beating Missouri Southern in a five-set thriller.

Central trailed 1-0 before winning the next two sets. Then after giving one back, UCO took a wild 24-22 decision in the fifth set to oust MSSU.

The Bronchos dropped the opening set 25-23 but answered with a 25-17 victory in the second and a 25-20 win in the third.

Central trailed late in the fifth set, but responded with a rally to take a 14-13 lead. UCO and MSSU went back and forth, both teams holding late leads as the match went on, but neither team able to get the two-point lead. Until the Bronchos finally managed and went ahead 24-22 to take the match.

The win setup the Bronchos in a semifinal match against Nebraska Kearney. The MIAA is hosting a spring season volleyball tournament following the team's modified spring season. Central Missouri and Northwest Missouri will face off in the other semifinal at 11 a.m. before the Bronchos take on the Lopers at 1 p.m.
