Central Oklahoma Visits East Central

ADA, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team makes a short trek south to visit East Central University Tuesday at 3 p.m. in a non-conference midweek matchup.

Central Oklahoma is 9-8 this season and looking to snap a two-game slide. The Bronchos won the first of three games against Pittsburg State this weekend but dropped the latter two. East Central is 3-16 overall this season and is also on a two-game losing streak.

UCO is hitting .298 as a team this season through 17 games played. Central averages 7.4 runs per game on 10.3 hits per game. The Bronchos have five players with at least .324 batting average.

Garrett Takamatsu leads the team with a .397 batting average. The junior catcher is second on the team with 23 hits and is second in the lineup with 14 RBIs. He also has three home runs, which is the second most on the squad. Takamatsu has three doubles and has scored 13 runs this season.

Kyle Crowl is second on the team with a .375 batting average. The senior shortstop leads the team in hits, doubles, home runs, RBIs, and is third on the team in runs scored. Crowl has pelted 24 hits, six doubles, and five home runs. He has 17 RBIs and has scored 14 runs.

Joe Mondragon is tied with Crowl for the team lead with 24 base hits this season. The senior first baseman is hitting .353 and has four doubles and two triples to go with 10 RBIs and a team-high 19 runs scored.

Ryan Harrel (.328) has 19 hits, 13 runs scored, and 11 runs batted in. Philip Scott (.324) has 22 hits, a team-high six doubles, and adds 16 runs and 10 RBIs.

Defensively, Central has a team ERA of 5.42. The Bronchos give up an average of 5.7 runs per game off 8.5 hits per game. Opponents hit just .259 against the Bronchos.

UCO has three pitchers with at least 20 strikeouts and all three average more than one per inning. Luke Anderson (32), Kyler Patterson (24) and Jacob Bailey (20) are among the Broncho arms that help Central to 166 strikeouts in 17 games.

East Central welcomes UCO to Ada with an offense averaging 4.8 runs per game on 6.8 hits per game. ECU has a team batting average of .230 through 19 games played. Defensively, the Tigers have a team ERA of 8.66, with ECU allowing 8.8 runs per game off 10.6 hits per game.

Central Oklahoma will return home following its midweek matchup with East Central. The Bronchos host Washburn this weekend as UCO returns to league play against its MIAA foe from Topeka, Kansas. Game 1 of the three-game series is scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m.
