Bronchos Blast Lincoln To Complete Sweep

EDMOND (March 26) – Tarin Dubler's lead-off home run in the first inning ignited an early outburst that put Central Oklahoma in control and the No. 25-ranked Bronchos went on to a 10-1 second-game thrashing of Lincoln Friday afternoon.

UCO jumped out top 5-0 in the first and closed the game out after five innings in completing a run-rule sweep of the Blue Tigers. The Bronchos -- who won the opener 8-0 -- improved to 18-6 overall and 7-1 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play with their fifth straight win.

"We had a good day," head coach Cody White said. "Our hitters started kind of slow in the first game, but then came on strong and we got off to a great start in the second one. We've got two big games tomorrow and need to come out ready to play."

Central is back on the field Saturday for another league doubleheader, taking on Central Missouri at 12 p.m. The Jennies swept Newman Friday and are 15-3 with a six-game winning streak.

The Bronchos didn't waste any time taking command in their first at bat, with Dubler getting her team off to a perfect start by belting a line-drive shot over the center field fence. Shayla Harper then singled to left field and Jacee Minter doubled down the line to set up Hazel Puempel, who plated Harper with  a single through the right side.

Minter scooted home on a wild pitch, Allie Eicher doubled off the right field wall and Puempel made it 4-0 on another wild pitch. Eicher scored the final run on Amelya Huggins' groundout.

The Bronchos made it 6-0 in the second when Puempel drew a two-out walk, stole second and scored on Eicher's triple down the left field line. It was the first career triple for Eicher, who has 112 hits in her four years with UCO.

Lincoln scored its only run of the day in the top of the fourth, but the Bronchos answered back with four of their own in the bottom of that inning to make it 10-1.

Huggins had a run-scoring double, Dubler an RBI groundout and Minter a sacrifice fly, with the other run scoring on an error.

UCO finished with 11 hits, getting two apiece from Harper, Puempel, Eicher and Huggins.

Three pitchers limited Lincoln to four hits. Corrina Rivas went the first three innings to pick up the win, improving to 9-2, while Isie Cox and Bailey McKittrick each threw a shutout inning.
