Bronchos Blank UCM To Complete Sweep

EDMOND (March 27) – Corrina Rivas threw a three-hitter while benefitting from several stellar defensive plays as Central Oklahoma blanked Central Missouri 5-0 to complete a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association doubleheader sweep Saturday afternoon.

The No. 25-ranked Bronchos – who pulled out a 2-1 extra-inning win in the opener -- won their seventh straight in moving to 20-6 on the season and 9-1 in conference play. The Jennies dropped to 15-5 and 4-2.

"We came out with two really big wins today," said head coach Cody White, whose team has now won 17 consecutive home games . "Both pitchers (Kylee Lynch and Rivas) threw great and we came up with some clutch hits. Our defense was outstanding in both games, but particularly the second one."

Rivas gave up single hits in three different innings while walking one batter and striking out one going the distance for the fifth time this season. The junior right-hander needed just 70 pitches in moving to 10-2 on the season.

Third baseman Shayla Harper made a trio of big-time plays at the hot corner, while Tarin Dubler robbed UCM of a base hit in the third inning with a diving stop at second. Lexy Dobson capped the defensive showcase in the seventh with an end-of-her-mitt grab while fully extended to prevent an extra base hit that would have ruined the shutout.

UCO finished with eight hits, getting two from Jacee Minter.

UCO grabbed a quick 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Dubler led off with a walk, stole second and scored on Minter's one-out single up the middle.

The Bronchos erupted for four two-out runs in the second to up their advantage to 5-0.

Dobson and Mikalya Rutland opened the inning with back-to-back singles before the Jennies got two quick outs, then both runners scored when Dubler roped a triple down the right field line.

Harper followed with her team-high seventh homer of the season, this one a no-doubt blast to left win.

That made it 5-0, which was more than enough cushion with Rivas in the circle.
