Bronchos Run Past Gorillas

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma volleyball team earned a 3-1 victory over Pittsburg State Wednesday night at Hamilton Field House.

Central Oklahoma jumped out to a 2-0 lead before finishing off the four-set win. The Bronchos won 25-19, 25-17, 22-25, 25-16.

"We had some players step up and play really well tonight and that helped," UCO head volleyball coach Edgar Miraku said. "We competed well and we're getting a little better with every match."

Courtney Lane smashed home a match-high 25 kills and did so with no attack errors in hitting a blistering .510. She also added four digs. Lauren Jenkins and Mallory Hendrix also both had 10 kills while Amanda Desch added nine kills to go with her 41 assists.

Desch also led the team with 19 digs but four Bronchos had big nights on defense. Jaedynn Evans added 17 digs, Kelsey Garcia 14, and Ericka Scholl 11.

Central Oklahoma will continue its spring season Friday with another MIAA home matchup. The Bronchos take on Missouri Southern Friday at 6 p.m. at Hamilton Field House.
