Bronchos Blank Bulldogs To Open Season

EDMOND (Feb. 4) – Kylee Lynch pitched five shutout innings and Lexy Dobson drove in three runs as Central Oklahoma blanked Southwestern Oklahoma 7-0 Thursday afternoon on the first day of the UCO Softball Classic.

The Bronchos scored all their runs in the first two innings to establish early control and cruised the rest of the way in the 2021 season-opener. Central ends the day against Cameron and is scheduled to play twice more Friday.

"We didn't hit the ball as well as I would have liked, but it was a good start for us," head coach Cody White said. "Kylee threw well and our defense was solid. We were excited to get going."

Lynch gave up a second-inning double in her dominating performance in the circle. The second-year freshman left-hander walked two and struck out four in a 65-pitch outing to pick up the win, while Bailey McKittrick went the final two innings to finish the shutout.

Tarin Dubler, Hazel Puempel and Taylor McKittrick had two hits apiece to lead an eight-hit attack.

UCO went ahead 1-0 in its initial at bat of the season. Dubler reached on an error to lead off, Puempel and Jacee Minter had consecutive one-out infield singles to load the bases and Dobson's sacrifice fly to center field plated Dubler.

The Bronchos broke the game open quickly in the second with a six-run eruption to make it 7-0, needing just three hits to do that damage.

Allie Eicher walked to start the inning, T. McKittrick followed with a single to left field and both advanced on Halley Randolph's sacrifice bunt. Dubler drove in the first run with a single up the middle, Brighton Gilbert had an RBI fielder's choice and another fielder's choice allowed Puempel to reach in loading the bases.

An error on Minter's grounder to second brought in two runs, then Dobson capped the big inning by lacing a line-drive triple to the right-center field gap to score two more.

Dobson also had the defensive play of the game to end the sixth inning when the junior center fielder raced in on a short fly ball and made a diving catch.
