Spring Volleyball Schedule Starts Friday

EDMOND - Central Oklahoma will open its abbreviated spring volleyball schedule this weekend with home matches against a pair of near-by rivals.

The Bronchos of head coach Edgar Miraku will take on Southern Nazarene at 6:30 p.m. Friday and Oklahoma Christian at 7 p.m. Sunday.

A limited number of spectators will be allowed at Hamilton Field House due to ongoing COVID-19 health and safety protocols. Click here for tickets and here for the free video stream.

The 2020 fall season was canceled by the coronavirus pandemic and there will be no NCAA Division II National Tournament. UCO will play a 13-match Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association schedule (five home, eight away) along with four non-conference opponents – SNU, OC, East Central and Oklahoma Baptist.

"We're excited about having the opportunity to play this spring," said Miraku, who is in his ninth year at the Central helm. "It was tough not to have any matches in the fall, but our players have worked hard and they've done a good job of coming in each day trying to get better."

The Bronchos have nine players back from the 2019 team that finished 18-13 along with five newcomers - three transfers and two freshmen. Players retained a year of eligibility from the NCAA after the fall season was canceled and the spring schedule won't affect that status.
