Central Hosts Lions Tuesday

Central Oklahoma opens a three-match Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association homestand Tuesday when the Bronchos host Missouri Southern.

Match-time at Hamilton Field House is 6 p.m.

UCO is 16-6 on the season and tied for fourth in the league standings at 9-5. The Lions are 3-20 overall and 0-13 in conference play.

"It's good to be back home and it's important to protect our own court," 10th-year head coach Edgar Miraku said. "We've played pretty well lately and need to keep it up these last couple of weeks."

Only three weeks remain in the regular season. The Bronchos follow Tuesday's match with home outings Friday and Saturday, go on the road for two contests next week and then finish at home on Nov. 9.

ABOUT THE BRONCHOS: UCO won two of three matches last week, beating Pittsburg State at home and at Fort Hays State while falling to No. 16-ranked Nebraska-Kearney on the road.

Courtney Lane collected 43 kills, 40 digs and seven blocks to lead the Bronchos in those three outings. Brynn Egger added 25 kills and Jenna Karp had 23 kills along with 19 blocks.

Five players have 100-plus kills for Central – Lane (274), Karp (176), Lauren Jenkins (175), Egger (127) and Nalani McCrary (107).

Lane is third in the league in kills per set with 3.61 and she leads the way in both total points (310) and points per set (4.08). The sophomore has 215 digs, 35 blocks and 16 aces.

Karp tops the MIAA in blocks with 1.17 per set (91 total) and McCrary is 10th with 0.88 (63 total).

Katie Le has dug up 449 attacks, a 5.76 per-set average that is second-best in the conference.

UCO beat the Lions in four sets in this year's first meeting back on Sept. 28 in Joplin, Mo. The Bronchos own a 23-8 series lead and have won 15 of the last 16 meetings.

ABOUT THE LIONS: MSSU enters Tuesday's contest with a 16-match losing streak.

Armyni Perales leads the Lions with 160 kills to go with 31 blocks and she had a match-high 20 kills in the two teams' first meeting. CC Pollard has added 116 kills and Kierson Maydew 108 kills and 45 blocks.
