Bronchos Host Newman Tuesday

Central Oklahoma wraps up a three-match Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association homestand Tuesday when the Bronchos host Newman.

Match-time is 6 p.m. at Hamilton Field House.

UCO is 13-4 on the season and fourth in the league standings at 6-3. The Jets from Wichita, Kan. are 6-8 and 2-6.

"We're coming off a tough loss and need to make sure we don't let that linger," said head coach Edgar Miraku, whose team dropped a five-set heartbreaker to No. 10-ranked Northwest Missouri Saturday. "We had a hard match with Newman last month, so I expect another one this time around."

ABOUT THE BRONCHOS: UCO beat the Jets in this year's first meeting on Sept. 18 in Wichita, bouncing back from a first-set loss to win the next three.

Jenna Karp had 15 kills and Courtney Lane 14 to lead the way in that contest. The Bronchos have an 8-1 advantage in the series and have won the last seven meetings.

UCO's tough loss Saturday to the No. 10 Bearcats was the first at Hamilton Field House this season. The Bronchos are 7-1 at home and have a 95-24 record at HFH under Miraku, who is in his 10th year at the helm.

Three players have racked up 140-plus kills for Central.

Lane tops the team with 210, a 3.50 per-set average that ranks fourth in the league. The sophomore has added 172 digs, 27 blocks and 16 service aces in scoring 241.5 points for an MIAA-best 4.03 per-set average.

Karp has 143 kills and Jenkins 140, with both hitting .281 on the season. Karp also has a team-high 67 blocks, ranking third in the conference with 1.10 a set.

Nalani McCrary has added 80 kills and 47 blocks, while the versatile Amanda Desch is hitting a team-best .327 with 58 kills to go along with 459 assists, 195 digs and 24 blocks.

Defensive ace Katie Le has accumulated 340 digs, a 5.57 per-set average that is second-best in the conference.

ABOUT THE JETS: Newman topped Missouri Western in its last outing.

The Jets are led by Salome Romp and Riley Daugherty, who rank among the MIAA leaders in kills per set. Romp is second (3.59) and has 194 total, while Daugherty is sixth (3.20) with 173 on the season.

Romp made 15 kills and Daugherty 11 in Newman's first meeting with UCO.

Jada Key is fifth in the league in blocks with 0.98 per set (53 total) and Paitun Haga is fifth in digs with 4.85 per set (262 total).
