Rivas, Bronchos Topple Colorado Mines

EDMOND (Feb. 9) – Corrina Rivas had another strong outing in the pitching circle and Central Oklahoma cruised past Colorado School of Mines 9-1 Sunday afternoon to stay unbeaten in the UCO Softball Invitational.

Rivas scattered four hits and walked just one while striking out seven in going the first five innings. The junior transfer picked up her third straight win for the Bronchos, who are now 5-0 for the weekend and 6-5 on the season.

Central wraps up the three-day event with a 4 p.m. contest against East Central.

"Corrina threw well and we were able to manufacture some runs," head coach Cody White said. "It's been a good weekend so far. We just want to finish strong and keep getting better."

Allie Eicher had two doubles to lead UCO's seven-hit attack, while Amelya Huggins' two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning ended the game on the eight-run rule.

Central broke on top in the second, scoring two runs on just one hit. Haley Pomplun had an RBI fielder's choice and Eicher came home on a wild pitch after earlier reaching on a fielder's choice.

The Orediggers scored their lone run in the third, but UCO got that back in its next at bat. Lexy Dobson walked to lead off, raced all the way to third on Brighton Gilbert's bunt single and scooted home on Halley Randolph's perfectly placed squeeze bunt.

Rivas got out of a two-out, bases-loaded jam with a strikeout in the top of the fourth and the Bronchos broke the game open in the bottom of that inning.

Eicher started things with a line-drive double to right-center field, Pomplun drew a one-out walk and Audrie Morrison plated Eicher with a single to right. Dobson followed with an RBI double to center and an error allowed two more runs to score to make it 7-1.

UCO then ended it in the sixth on Huggins' two-out, two-run double to left-center.
