No. 21 Lions Top UCO

EDMOND (Feb. 22) – Central Oklahoma fell behind early and never recovered in falling to No. 21-ranked Texas A&M-Commerce 7-1 Saturday evening on the second day of the UCO Softball Festival.

The Lions scored two runs in the first and answered the Bronchos' lone score with four more in the second to seize quick control en route to beating UCO for the second time this season.

Central, now 10-10 on the year, is set to host St. Mary's at 12 p.m. Sunday to finish off the weekend, weather permitting.

"We're not playing very well right now," head coach Cody White said. "I still believe we have a good team, but we're not making winning plays. We just have to keep our head up and work hard at getting better."

TAMUC jumped on top 2-0 in the top of the first, with the Bronchos getting their lone score in the bottom of that frame.

Hazel Puempel had a two-out single to left field and went to second on a passed ball before scoring on Amelya Huggins' single to left.

The Lions came right back, scoring four runs on five hits in the top of the second to go up 6-1 and they scored the only other run of the game in the fourth.

Puempel had two of UCO's seven hits.
