Central Oklahoma Visits Oklahoma Christian

OKLAHOMA CITY – The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team hits the road for a mid-week non-conference matchup against Oklahoma Christian Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
 
Central Oklahoma heads down to OKC with a 20-13 overall record this season. The Bronchos are looking to salvage the season series with Oklahoma Christian. UCO came up short against the Eagles 8-5 both on Feb. 3 and again by the same score on March 26. Oklahoma Christian is 21-11 this season.
 
Central has reached the 20-win mark this season behind a strong pitching staff and a stellar defense.
 
UCO has a team earned run average of 3.76 and averages over 10 strikeouts per game this season. The Bronchos pitching staff has 335 total strikeouts in 33 games played this season. In both games against Oklahoma Christian this season, UCO has struck out nine batters. The Bronchos have in 18 games, struck out at least 10 batters.
 
Central Oklahoma allows 7.5 hits per game, which is among the best in the country, and is allowing 4.1 runs per game. UCO's .987 fielding percentage is also the best in NCAA Division II.
 
At the plate, UCO is led by Brock Ruminer. The junior outfielder has a .307 batting average this season. Ruminer has 23 hits – six for extra bases – and when he gets on base, is an even bigger threat. Ruminer, who played for OC during his freshman season, is 22-for-23 attempting to steal bases this year.
 
Philip Scott, a junior infielder with a .301 batting average this season, is also a leader at the plate for Central. Scott has a team-high 37 hits this season, including nine doubles, which is also a team high. Scott's nine stolen bases is the second most on the team behind Ruminer.
 
The Bronchos as a team hit .247 this season. UCO averages 7.9 hits per game and 5.1 runs per game. Central Oklahoma also averages two stolen bases per game.
 
Oklahoma Christian is hitting .297 as a team. The Eagles average 9.6 hits per game and 6.7 runs per game. Defensively, OC has a 4.57 ERA and averages 6.8 strikeouts per game.
 
Central Oklahoma will return to Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play this weekend when the Bronchos visit Northeastern State for a three-game series beginning Thursday afternoon.
