Crawl Sparks UCO In Win Over Lions

ST. CHARLES, Mo. (Feb. 10) – Devin Crawl's first-period fall ignited a dual-ending four-match winning streak that carried No. 12-ranked Central Oklahoma to a 27-9 upset of No. 6 Lindenwood Sunday afternoon.

The Bronchos led just 10-9 heading into the 174-pound bout, but Crawl threw Sam Pennington to his back on the edge of the mat and got the pin at the 2:15 mark and UCO rode that momentum the rest of the way.

Heath Gray followed Crawl's fall with a wild 17-11 win at 184, Colton Looper prevailed 1-0 at 197 and heavyweight Greg Wilson capped the closing surge with an 18-0 technical fall.

Central also got a major decision from 157 Ty Lucas, while 133 Noah McQuigg and 141 Nate Keim added decisions.  The Bronchos improved to11-4 overall and 3-1 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association action heading into Monday night's dual finale at Central Missouri.

"Our guys really got after it today," head coach Todd Steidley said.  "We worked them really hard this week, but they came out with a lot of energy and wrestled hard.  That was a big win over a really good team."

The Lions took the opening match at 125 pounds to grab a quick 3-0 lead, but McQuigg knocked off No. 9-ranked Tanner Hitchcock 6-4 behind a takedown and two-point near-fall in the first period to tie it.

Keim had three takedowns in an 8-3 triumph at 141 to put UCO ahead before Lindenwood won the next match to tie it again.  Lucas scored a four-point near-fall in the final seconds to notch a 10-2 major decision that gave the Bronchos the lead for good at 10-6.

Lindenwood's last win came at 165, but Crawl promptly answered that with his big pin and Central pulled away.

The second-ranked Gray piled up six takedowns in a 17-11 win over No. 10 Colton Clingenpeel, Looper's second-period escape was the difference in a 1-0 victory and Wilson had four near-falls in an 18-0 technical fall that ended in the first period.
