Biography

Returning All-American who should challenge for the 133-pound national championship in 2021-22 … Started at 125 his first two years before moving to 133 last season and went on to finish third in the NCAA Division II national tournament … Tough, physical lightweight with plenty of offensive weapons … Success of last year should be a big boost to this experienced junior, who enters the season ranked No. 3 … In his fifth year with the Bronchos, but just a junior eligibility-wise since the NCAA didn’t count the shortened 2020-21 campaign.

2021-22: Battled injury problems and didn’t compete in shortened regular season, earning a forfeit in his only dual appearance … Opened Regional IV Tournament with 16-0 technical fall before dropping 3-2 decision to Lindenwood’s Tanner Hitchcock … Responded with a fall and 5-1 win to take third, then won 6-3 in second-place challenge match to earn automatic berth to national tournament … Followed first-round bye at nationals before routing Hitchcock 12-3, then lost in semifinals … Rebounded with 5-3 sudden-victory win and come-from-behind 12-7 triumph in consolation finals to claim third in finishing the season 8-2.

2019-20: Finished with 20-7 record that included seven bonus-point wins … Captured Fort Hays State title, placed fourth at the Oklahoma City Open and was fifth at the rugged Midwest Classic … Entered the Super Regional IV Tournament ranked fourth nationally, but suffered first-round upset and ended up finishing fourth … Followed opening-round loss with two consolation wins and then dropped 6-3 decision to second-ranked Carlos Jacquez of Lindenwood in third-place bout that determined national tournament berth … Five of seven losses came to Jacquez and top-rated Marcus Povlick of McKendree.

2018-19: Took over starting berth the second semester and finished with 8-6 record that included two major decisions … Placed fourth at the Super Regional IV Tournament to just miss out on national tournament berth … Dropped 9-7 sudden victory decision in semifinals of that tournament to eventual national champion Carlos Jacquez of Lindenwood … Lost wild 19-17 match in dual to Josh Portillo of Nebraska-Kearney, who ended up as the national runner-up.

2017-18: Competed in two open tournaments at 133 during redshirt year, going 7-3 with two falls and two major decisions ... Won four matches in finishing runner-up in the Oklahoma City Open and went 3-2 in the Fort Hays State Open.

High School: Four-year standout at Deer Creek High School in Edmond . . . Racked up sensational 138-9 career record and was a four-time state finalist, capturing three titles . . . Earned All-State honors as a senior.
