EDMOND (Feb. 24) –
Jared Wright drove in two runs in the final three innings to lift Central Oklahoma to an 8-5 second-game victory over Fort Hays State and earn the Bronchos a doubleheader split Sunday afternoon at Wendell Simmons Field.

The Tigers won the opener 7-5 before UCO bounced back to take the nightcap in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association twinbill.  The third game of the series that was scheduled for Monday has been cancelled.

Wright entered the game in the sixth inning and ripped a lead-off solo home run in his first at bat to increased UCO's lead to 6-4 and he added a run-scoring double during a two-run eighth that made it 8-5.

Edgar Lopez started and went the first seven innings to earn the pitching win, with Jake Tuck picking up the save.

Wright, Dilon Argo and Matt Malloy had two hits apiece to pace a 10-hit attack.

The Bronchos took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the contest on consecutive doubles by Matt Johnson, Malloy and Wacey Henderson, but FHSU came back with four runs in the second to move in front.

UCO rebounded to tie it in its half of that inning as Argo had a two-run double and the redshirt freshman came through with an RBI double in the fourth to put the Bronchos on top 5-4.

It stayed that way until Wright led off the sixth with his solo shot to left field, with the Tigers getting a run back in the eighth.  UCO put the game away with Wright's RBI double and Cameron Mavroulis' sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth.

FHSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings in the opener and the Bronchos were never able to catch up.

Malloy's solo homer in the third pulled UCO within 4-2 and an RBI single by Tyler Crabtree in the fourth kept the Bronchos within two at 5-3.

Ross Rose's pinch-hit RBI double in the sixth made it a 5-4 game, but FHSU pushed across two runs in the top of the seventh and UCO was able to get just one back in its final at bat on Henderson's RBI groundout.

The Bronchos, now 2-3 on the season and in the conference, is scheduled to host Missouri Southern for a doubleheader Wednesday.
