UCO Drops Two

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (Sept. 8) –
Central Oklahoma dropped a pair of frustrating five-set matches here Saturday on the second day of the Arkansas Tech Spikefest.
 
The Bronchos fell to Arkansas-Monticello 21-25, 25-20, 16-25, 25-19, 15-12 in the morning and then dropped a hard-luck 25-21, 22-25, 20-25, 25-20, 16-14 decision to host Arkansas Tech in their final outing.  UCO dropped to 3-5 on the young season, with four of those losses coming in five sets.
 
“We had a chance to win both matches and just came up short,” head coach Edgar Miraku said.  “We played hard and had moments in both matches where we played well, but we weren't consistent enough and that's something we have to correct.
 
Morgan Roy paced the Bronchos in the UAM bout with 21 kills, while freshmen Barbara Jackson (12) and Talia Stanley (11) combined for 23 kills.  Juliette Smith added seven kills and four blocks, Tate Hardaker led the defense with 26 digs and Faith Harmon had 50 assists.
 
Roy added 21 more kills in the ATU loss en route to earning all-tournament honors, while Jackson hit .351 with 15 kills and just two errors in 37 attacks.  Vanessa Gomes chipped in nine kills, while Harmon had 52 assists and Hardaker 25 digs.
 
The Bronchos make their Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association debut Tuesday when they travel to Pittsburg State.
