UCO Holds Off Cardinals

Box Score

EDMOND (March 5) –
Uriah Fisher and Aaron Rosborough combined to limit high-powered Incarnate Word to one run and Central Oklahoma pulled out a 2-1 victory here Saturday afternoon despite managing just three hits.

The Bronchos got two of their three hits in scoring a pair of seventh-inning runs to overcome UIW's brief 1-0 lead and held on to take the finale in the three-game Lone Star Conference series.

UCO improved to 6-11 overall and 3-9 in the league. The Cardinals, who scored 20 runs in sweeping a Friday doubleheader, fell to 10-5 and 9-3.

“Our guys deserved that win right there,” head coach Dax Leone said. “We played outstanding team defense and when you play clean baseball you will always give yourself a chance.”

Fisher started and went the first 6 1/3 innings, giving up seven hits and one run while walking three and striking out four.

That run came in the top of the seventh and Rosborough entered the contest with the bases loaded and one out. The junior right-hander got a fielder's choice force out at home plate for the second out and then ended the inning with a strikeout.

Rosborough gave up one hit in both the eighth and ninth innings, but held on to pick up the win.

The Bronchos got their runs in the bottom of the seventh with two extra base hits and a long fly ball.

Ryan Schoonover led off with a double and went to third on Tucker Brown's sacrifice bunt before scoring on Kevin Blue's triple, with Blue scoring the tie-breaking run on Arrow Cunningham's sacrifice fly.

UCO goes to Texas A&M-Kingsville for a three-game league series next weekend.
