EDMOND (March 4) –
Central Oklahoma was outhit 35-11 in dropping a Lone Star Conference doubleheader to Incarnate Word here Friday afternoon.

The Cardinals had a 12-3 hit advantage in a 6-2 first-game victory and battered five UCO pitchers for 23 hits in a 14-4 second-game win to complete the sweep.

The two times wrap up the three-game series Saturday with a single nine-inning game at 1 p.m.

“Incarnate Word is a really good club and they play it the right way,” said UCO coach Dax Leone, whose team dropped to 5-11 overall and 2-9 in the LSC. “We just flat out got outplayed today and we need to start executing on both sides of the ball.”

UIW led 6-0 in the opener before the Bronchos got their two runs in the third.

Arrow Cunningham reached on an error, Kevin Blue singled and both advanced on Ryan Schoonover's sacrifice bunt before scoring on Keegan Morrow's RBI single and Derik Grimes' sacrifice fly.

That got UCO within 6-2, but the Bronchos couldn't get any closer and finished the contest with just three hits.

The Cardinals took a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning in the nightcap, with UCO getting one back in their half when Morrow led off with a double, took third on Schoonover's single and scored on Tyler Hancock's groundout.

UIW made it 3-1 in the fourth and then took control with seven runs in the next two innings to go up 10-1.

The Bronchos scored their final three runs in the sixth, getting a run-scoring single from Mac Gordon and sacrifice fly from Corey Hawk.

Gordon had two of UCO's eight hits.
