ABILENE, Texas (Oct. 7) -- Central Oklahoma couldn't keep pace with No. 21-ranked Abilene Chrisitan here Thursday night as the Bronchos fell in three sets to the Lone Star Conference co-leaders.
UCO hit just .069 while making 20 hitting errors in the 25-20, 25-16, 25-16 setback, dropping to 14-5 on the year and 4-2 in the league. The Wildcats improved to 15-3 and 5-0.
"We fought hard and hung in there for a while, but ACU just had too much firepower for us tonight," said UCO coach Jeff Boyland, whose team plays at Angelo State Saturday afternoon. "They're really strong at the net and we had a hard time getting past their blockers."
Alex Richardson led the Bronchos with seven kills and two blocks, while Zuela Adom -- who leads the LSC in kills -- was held to a season-low six in 35 attacks. Kristen Wilson also had six kills for UCO to go with 11 digs and Halie Harrington added five kills and two blocks.
The Bronchos stayed close throughout the first set and were within 22-20 after an ACU error, but the Wildcats got two consecutive blocks in scoring three straight points to close out the set. UCO led only briefly in each of the last two sets.
