DURANT, Okla. (Sept. 17) -- A lengthy winning streak came to an end here Thursday night when Central Oklahoma dropped its first-ever match to Southeastern Oklahoma in the Lone Star Conference opener for both teams.
The Bronchos were a perfect 20-0 against SOSU in a series that started in 1998, but the Savage Storm finally broke through as they prevailed in a thrilling back-and-forth struggle, 20-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-23.
"That was a true battle that could have gone either way," UCO coach Jeff Boyland said. "We played well, but just lost it at the end of the sets."
Kristen Wilson led the Bronchos, hitting a sizzling .382 with a match-high 17 kills and just four errors in 34 attacks while adding 12 digs. Freshman Taylor Summers continued her recent surge with 11 kils and Zuela Adom contributed 10 kills and five blocks.
UCO also got four kills and 43 assists from Meaghan Wedberg and four kills and three blocks from Courtney Whitlow.
The Bronchos, now 6-8 on the year and 0-1 in the league, return to action Saturday with an afternoon match at East Central.
