HAYS, Kan. (Dec. 3) -- Dustin Finn pulled out a tough overtime win and Casy Rowell had a dominating major decision in helping stake Central Oklahoma to a 16-0 lead and the No. 4-ranked Bronchos went on to a 19-12 triumph over No. 13 Fort Hays State here Thursday night.

The Tigers won four straight matches to pull within 16-12 heading into the final match at 197 pounds, but Jarrett Edison scored six third-period points to pull out a 6-3 win there to clinch the dual.

UCO got wins from Finn, Rowell, Edison, Trison Graham, Scott Berens and Colby Robinson in improving to 2-1 on the year.

“We had some tough, gritty performances tonight and the guys did a good job,” UCO coach David James said.  “I knew it was going to be a tight dual and it certainly was that. Our two young guys at 125 and 133 (Rowell and Graham) gave us a big boost and we had some other guys who found a way to win when they didn't wrestle their best.”

The dual started at heavyweight, where the third-ranked Finn was pushed to the limit before pulling out a tough 4-2 overtime win over Carl Wilkinson.  A two-time national runner-up, Finn led 2-1 going into the second 30-second tiebreaker period and clinched it with a two-point near-fall before giving up a late escape.

Rowell followed with another dominating win as the sixth-ranked rookie picked up his 17th win of the season with a 12-1 drubbing at 125.  Rowell had four takedowns and a near-fall in racking up his eighth bonus-point win of the season.

Graham had an easy 9-2 triumph at 133, picking up three takedowns and just missing out on a major decision, and the Bronchos pulled out close wins in the next two weights to grab its commanding 16-0 lead.

Berens overcame a 4-2 first-period deficit for a narrow 6-5 triumph at 141, using 1:05 of riding time to gain the winning point.  Robinson ended UCO's dual-opening run with a 2-0 shutout behind a second-period escape and a riding time point.

The Tigers followed a brief intermission with four straight wins -- three of those by two points or less -- to get within 16-12, but Edison ended FHSU's comeback hopes with his win in the final bout.

Edison trailed 1-0 entering the third period, but used a reverse and two takedowns to pull out a 6-3 win over Chance Rencountre in avenging a 4-3 loss suffered two weeks earlier.

The Bronchos stay in Hays to compete in the Fort Hays State Open Saturday.
