Susana Olivares was named the 2021-22 MIAA Women's Golfer of the Year in addition to earned First Team All-MIAA honors. Emma Shelley was also named Second Team All-MIAA.

"I'm happy for these two to be recognized for all of their hard work and dedication," UCO head women's golf coach Michael Bond said.

Olivares has been Central's top player this season on her way to being named the best in the league. In nine tournaments, the sophomore from Mexico is averaging 73.7 per round. She's finished in the Top 12 in eight out of the nine tourneys, the Top 10 in seven, and in the Top 5 in five tournaments.

Olivares won the 2022 Tunica Cup in February and she also tied for first at the Diffee Ford Lincoln Invite in March. She's twice posted rounds of 69 this season, with a 3-under-par 69 at the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate her best round to par this season.

Shelley's 2021-22 season hasn't been a full schedule, but the results have been solid. The Bartlesville, Oklahoma native averages a 75.1 per round score. She's finished in the Top 20 in five of the seven tournaments she played in.

Shelley finished fourth at the Tunica Cup in February and she also tied for first at the Diffee Ford Lincoln Invite with Olivares and another golfer before winning the title on the second hole of a playoff. She's twice posted a round of 70 with her 2-under-par 70 at the Division II Central Regional Preview in October her lowest score to par this season.

Olivares and Shelley both arrived at Central as freshman for the 2019-20 season – the season ultimately canceled due to the pandemic. No postseason awards were given that year and the duo remained freshman for the 2020-21 season.

Last year, both of them earned All-MIAA honors as well. Olivares was named First Team All-MIAA and MIAA Freshman of the Year. Shelley was named Second Team All-MIAA.

Central Oklahoma is preparing for the 2022 MIAA Women's Golf Championship this weekend in Newton, Kansas. The Bronchos, winners of the 2021 title in Shelley's hometown of Bartlesville, is scheduled to open the 54-hole championship Thursday morning.
