UCO Finishes Fourth At Firekeeper Open

Bronchos Get Top 10 Performance From Sophomore Layne Ailshie

MAYETTA, Kan. – Central Oklahoma wrapped up the Firekeeper Open with a fourth-place team finish after playing three rounds at Firekeeper Golf Course.
 
UCO posted a 54-hole team score of 918. The Bronchos posted a 306 on Tuesday after rounds of 312 and 300 on Monday. Nebraska Kearney and host Washburn tied for first in the team standings with a 908 while Wayne State worked itself in front of the Bronchos for a third-place finish with a 915. Augustana (923) rounded out the top five behind the Bronchos.
 
Layne Ailshie led Central Oklahoma this week with a 9-over-par 225. The sophomore from Fort Gibson, Oklahoma had her best round of the week on Tuesday with a 2-over-par 74. She started the day with 14 consecutive pars before a bogey on No. 16. She parred No. 17 before a second bogey on No. 18, then finished the day with another par on No. 1, her 16th of the day.
 
Grace Hall just missed the Top 10 this week, finishing 11th in the field. The freshman from Austin, Texas shot a 13-over-par 229. She started Monday with a 6-over 78 before firing an even-par 72, then came back on Tuesday with a 7-over 79.
 
MaKaylee Cowan gave the Bronchos three in the Top 20 with a 20th-place finish. The junior from Yukon, Oklahoma shot an 18-over 234 (82-76-76). Estela Castillo finished 22nd one shot back with a 19-over 235 (80-79-76).
 
Scarlet Sturch was also in the lineup and finished 31st with a 22-over-par 238 (79-77-82).
 
Central Oklahoma has just one more regular season tournament on the calendar. The Bronchos will compete in the Regional Invite April 5-7 at Shangri-La in northeast Oklahoma. Central Missouri is hosting the event.
 
The 2026 MIAA Women's Golf Championships are scheduled for April 20-22 in Warrensburg, Missouri at UCM's Mules National. The Bronchos are poised to make an appearance in the NCAA Regional Championships May 4-6 in St. Joseph, Missouri. The top 18 teams in the Central Region qualify, which UCO has done in 14 consecutive seasons.
