Kaitlyn Cotton Earns Second MIAA Weekly Honor

Junior Defender Named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma junior defender Kaitlyn Cotton was named MIAA Defensive Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced Tuesday.

Cotton, who is from Edmond, was key on Central's back line in leading the Bronchos to an unbeaten week. UCO beat Rogers State 3-1 on Friday night and then played No. 6 Pittsburg State to a scoreless draw. The Bronchos were the first team to shutout Pitt in 10 matches this season.

On Friday against Rogers, Cotton also added an assist. UCO was awarded a free kick in the first half and Cotton stepped up to deliver. She sent a ball perfectly into the box where teammate Jordan Hahn headed home the score to give the. Bronchos a 2-0 lead in the match.

Cotton helped UCO limit Rogers State to just five total shots in the match and only one was on goal. She helped the Bronchos limit Pittsburg State to eight total shots and only three were on target.

The shutout against Pitt was the third of the season for the Bronchos. Cotton has played in and started all 10 games this season and she has played in all 900 minutes of those contests. She was named MIAA Defensive Athlete of the Week in Week 3 earlier this season.

Central Oklahoma has a rare one-game week this week. The Bronchos are off on Friday and will host Emporia State Sunday at 1 p.m. at Tom Thompson Field.
