Central Oklahoma Wins 3-1 Friday Night In Edmond

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma scored in a hurry Friday night to set the tone for a 3-1 victory over Rogers State in MIAA play at Tom Thompson Field.
 
UCO improved to 5-3-1 on the season with the win and is now 2-0-1 in the MIAA.
 
"Really proud of the way the team came out ready to play," UCO head women's soccer coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "We needed that spark and that helped. Then we kept on it when Rogers started to come back. That was big too. A great response to finish off the win."
 
Central Oklahoma is back on the pitch Sunday afternoon to host No. 6 Pittsburg State. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
Friday night, UCO wasted no time in getting on the board. In just the second minute, Sami Allen took a ball to the left side of the box and sent in a cross that Dannae Gutierrez headed home for the early 1-0 lead.
 
The Bronchos added to the lead in the 36th minute in similar fashion. A free kick was awarded following an RSU foul and Kaitlyn Cotton stepped up to take it. She sent a ball in from the sideline to the back side of the goal and Jordan Hahn headed in the score for a 2-0 lead.
 
In the first half, Central outshot Rogers 10-1.
 
Rogers State did have a response, scoring off a free kick as well. In the 58th minute, the visiting Hillcats from Claremore made it 2-1.
 
Freshman Ariana Kingsberry added the final tally in the 78th minute. She got open space traveling down the field on the right side of the box and had just enough room to get the shot off and put the Bronchos ahead 3-1.
 
UCO ended the game outshooting Rogers 18-5. The Bronchos had a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal.
 
Maddie Ortwein continued her stellar play in goal, keeping a clean sheet in 90 minutes.
 
Pittsburg State comes to Edmond on Sunday. The defending MIAA regular season champions are 9-0 overall and 3-0 in the MIAA after a 1-0 win at Northeastern State on Friday night.
