UCO Holds No. 6 Pitt State Scoreless In Draw

Central Oklahoma Handed Unbeaten Pittsburg State Its First Draw Sunday In Edmond

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma took No. 6 Pittsburg State to the limit Sunday afternoon in a grueling 0-0 draw in the MIAA.
 
The Bronchos are 5-3-2 on the season following the match and are now 2-0-2 in MIAA play. Pitt State is 9-0-1 overall and 3-0-1 in league play. The defending MIAA regular season champions have not allowed a goal in the first 10 matches of this season but were shutout for the first time Sunday in Edmond.
 
"We were so close on one of our chances to breaking through but we were just unlucky," UCO head women's soccer coach Amel Muhamedagic said. "I think we did a great job of limiting their chances. Our defense was great today. We shutout the No. 6 team in the country, that's great. We just didn't get our chances to go through."
 
UCO outshot Pitt State 9-8, including a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal.
 
Maddie Ortwein continued her dominant play in goal and made three saves on the day in earning her third shutout of the season.
 
Central's nine shots came from eight different players. Greta Likens took two, while seven others took one each.
 
The best chance of the day came from Dannae Gutierrez. The freshman forward had a brief battle for possession at the top of the box and even though she fell down, Gutierrez popped right back up and took the ball toward the goal. She managed a shot but PSU's goalkeeper made one of her six saves on the day to preserve the shutout.
 
Central Oklahoma only has one match next week. The Bronchos host Emporia State on Sunday, Oct. 4 at Tom Thompson Field.
