Bronchos Finish Second At Shangri-La

UCO Heads To Postseason Following Three-Day Spring Region Preview

MONKEY ISLAND, Okla. – Central Oklahoma finished second in the Spring Region Preview Tuesday with sophomore Layne Ailshie leading the way with a second-place individual finish of her own.
 
UCO posted a 54-hole 892 this week with rounds of 304, 288, and 300. Arkansas Tech won the team title with an 882 (295-288-299). Southwestern Oklahoma State (892) tied with the Bronchos while Northwest Missouri and Rogers State tied for fourth at 894.
 
Ailshie led the field heading into Tuesday's final round. The sophomore from Fort Gibson, Oklahoma posted back-to-back career lows. She carded a 2-under 70 on Sunday and a 3-under 69 on Monday. Ailshie would finish with a 3-over-par 75 on Tuesday, finishing with a 54-hole 214, 2-under for the tournament.
 
Grace Hall joined her in the top 10 with a ninth-place finish. She posted a 5-over-par 221 (76-71-74). Estela Castillo finished 29th with a 228 (80-72-76), Scarlet Sturch finished 33rd with a 230 (79-76-75), and MaKaylee Cowan finished 43rd with a 234 (79-78-77).
 
Central Oklahoma now turns to the postseason with the MIAA Women's Golf Championships up next. The Bronchos will head to Warrensburg, Missouri for the three-day, 54-hole postseason tournament April 20-22 at Mules National. The NCAA Central Region Championships are scheduled for May 4-6 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
 
Ailshie started her third round Tuesday with a bogey on No. 1 but followed with six-straight pars. She bogeyed No. 8 and was 2-over at the turn before a third bogey on No. 10. Ailshie had one more bogey in the round on No. 15, but she got one of those back with a birdie on the Par 3 17th. Ailshie sank 13 par putts in the final round.
 
Hall also started with a bogey and was 2-over after three holes but she got back to even with birdies on No. 4 and No. 6. The freshman was still even before back-to-back bogeys on No. 11 & 12, then added one more birdie on No. 14. Hall also bogeyed No. 16 but sank 10 par putts on the day.
 
Sturch added a pair of birdie putts to card a 3-over 75, her best round of the tournament. Castillo had a team-high four birdies on the day with a 4-over 76. Cowan added two birdies to her scorecard.
