Layne Ailshie Leads Bronchos With Back-To-Back Career Rounds

UCO Sophomore Has Team In Second At Shangri-La

MONKEY ISLAND, Okla. – Central Oklahoma sophomore Layne Ailshie followed up her career-low 70 on Sunday with a new best 69 Monday in the second round of the Spring Region Preview at Shangri-La.
 
UCO is in second place in the team standings with a 592. The Bronchos shot a 304 on Sunday before a 288 Monday. Arkansas Tech leads the team field with a 583 (295-288) while Central Missouri (596), Northwest Missouri (597), and Rogers State (598) round out the top five.
 
Ailshie posted a 2-under-par 70 on Easter Sunday to get the tournament started. She finished the first round tied for first in the individual standings. On Monday, Ailshie did one better, with a 3-under-par 69.
 
The sophomore from Fort Gibson, Oklahoma has 10 birdies in two rounds in the tournament. Sunday's round had five birdies on 9, 10, 16, 17, and No. 1 while Monday's round had five birdies on 4, 9, 11, 13, and No. 18.
 
Grace Hall is also in the Top 10 settling in a tie for eighth place after 36 holes at Shangri-La. The freshman started Sunday with back-to-back double bogeys but responded by playing the next 16 holes even par and posted an opening round 76.
 
She started Monday with a bogey but then sank seven straight pars, a birdie on No. 13, another two pars, and then an eagle on the Par 5 16th hole. Hall had one more bogey on No. 18 and finished the round with a 1-under par 71.
 
Estela Castillo is tied for 24th with a 36-hole score of 152. She responded to her 8-over 80 on Sunday with an even-par 72 on Monday. Scarlet Sturch is tied for 37th with a 155 (79-76) and MaKaylee Cowan is also in the lineup and tied for 45th individually with a 157 (79-78).
 
Central Oklahoma will tee off in the final round of the Spring Region Preview Tuesday morning. It's the final regular season event for the Bronchos, who will compete in the MIAA Women's Golf Championships April 20-22 in Warrensburg, Missouri.
