UCO Ready For DII Invite In Florida

National Event Has Seven Of Top Nine Programs In Latest Rankings

CLERMONT, Fla. – Central Oklahoma continues its season with the Division II Invite this weekend as the Bronchos take on top competition on Lake Minneola.

Racing begins Friday afternoon and will wrap up with another round Saturday morning.

"This weekend is an important opportunity for us to see where we stack up against Division II competition," UCO head women's rowing coach Luke Reynolds said. "We're excited to race a strong field and continue building toward the championship season."

The invitational is a clash of powerhouse programs from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and the Sunshine State Conference. UCO, with conference rivals Seattle Pacific and Cal Poly Humboldt, will meet up with defending national champion Embry-Riddle, Rollins, Nova Southeastern, and Barry from the SSC.

The latest College Rowing Coaches Association rankings have the Bronchos No. 6 in the country. Cal Poly Humboldt and Embry-Riddle are No. 1 and No. 2 respectively while both are receiving three first-place votes. Seattle Pacific and Rollins are fourth and fifth ahead of UCO. Nova Southeastern is seventh behind the Bronchos. Barry is receiving votes in this week's poll.

Earlier this week, Central Oklahoma had the GNAC Varsity 8+ Boat of the Week. Paige Ranney (coxswain), Eva-Louisa Eschbach, Rachel Harris, Jamie Cullen, Sawyer Schreiner, Carlota Martinez, Grace McConville, Adriana Hogan, and Tierney Westermier won in OKC against Milwaukee School of Engineering, Oklahoma State, and Wichita State.

This weekend, most of that lineup will take on the stout test in Florida. Ranney will lead the way again with Eschbach, Schreiner, Cullen, McConville, Martinez, Ksenia Mrsny, Hogan, and Westermier making up the boat.

UCO's Varsity 4+, which had two wins in OKC last weekend, will be led by coxswain Saleana Tipton. Raphaela Sanchez, Avery Mattingly, Dara Dennis, and Brittany Blackwell make up the lineup.

Central Oklahoma has one more race day in April, heading to Vancouver, Washington for the Northwest Collegiate Rowing Championships. UCO will then turn to the postseason and the GNAC Championships May 16 in California.
