Central Oklahoma Hosts Washburn In Weekend MIAA Series

Bronchos Begin Three-Game Series Friday Afternoon

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma hosts Washburn in an MIAA series at Wendell Simmons Field this weekend, beginning Friday at 3 p.m.
 
The teams will play Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m.
 
Central Oklahoma is 10-7 this season, including a 9-4 record at home. The Bronchos are 1-2 in the MIAA after opening conference play last weekend at Missouri Western.
 
Washburn is 6-10 overall this season, including a 4-6 road record. The Ichabods from Topeka, Kansas are 3-1 in the MIAA. Washburn took 2 of 3 from Newman two weeks ago and beat Fort Hays State in a midweek coming out of that series. WU went 1-3 at the Drury Invitational last weekend.
 
Central Oklahoma enters this weekend with a .283 team batting average. The Bronchos average 6.3 runs per game off of 8.9 hits per game. Central has 152 total hits in 17 games including 30 doubles, nine home runs, and three triples.
 
The UCO pitching staff enters the weekend with a 6.32 team earned run average. The Bronchos are allowing 6.7 runs per game off of 10.7 hits per game by opponents. Central does have 140 total strikeouts in 17 games this season.
 
Drake Lee leads the Bronchos with a .400 batting average in 14 games played this season. The senior first baseman has a team high 20 hits, 14 RBIs, four doubles, and three home runs. His 12 runs scored are the second most on the team.
 
Colton Ayres leads UCO with 15 runs scored. He his hitting .292 in 15 games played with 14 hits, a pair of doubles and a pair of homers, and 11 RBIs.
 
UCO starter Braxton Jones (2-0) leads the team with 32 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched this season. He has a 3.00 ERA entering this weekend. Kamden Thompson (2-1) has a 5.91 ERA and Danny Satterlee (1-2) has an 11.25 ERA.
 
Mylan Childers has the second most strikeouts on the team coming out of the bullpen. In just 7.2 innings of work, the junior has 17 Ks.
 
Central Oklahoma is home for the next two weekends. The Bronchos host Washburn for three games this weekend and will host Emporia State for three next weekend. UCO follows that with another home game that will be played at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in downtown Oklahoma City against Rogers State.
