Bronchos Drop Opener Against Mules

Central Oklahoma Loses 4-2 Friday To Central Missouri

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma had chances Friday to get a series-opening victory but the Bronchos couldn't come through in time of need and lost 4-2 to Central Missouri in the MIAA matchup at Wendell Simmons Field.

UCO is now 23-22 on the season with the loss and 14-17 in the MIAA. Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m. and the finale is Sunday at 1 p.m., preceded by Senior Day.

Central Oklahoma did, based on results around the league, clinch a berth in the MIAA Baseball Championship. The Bronchos are hosting the 10-team postseason tournament and May 6-9 and can finish anywhere from No. 7 to No. 10 in the final standings.

Central Missouri (32-11, 22-9 MIAA) managed its four runs on 11 hits but the Mules stranded nine baserunners. UCO starter Danny Satterlee threw 4.0 innings, Chase Yarger threw the next four, and Mylan Childers pitched the ninth.

Satterlee (4-5) struck out three batters and gave up three runs on seven hits. Yarger struck out a pair of UCM batters and gave up one run on three hits. Childers added one more strikeout in the ninth and gave up one hit.

UCM took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Cole Kreisel stole home on a 3-2 pitch with two outs in the inning. UCO answered back quick. Colton Ayres led off the bottom of the inning with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Caleb Castle. Ayres moved to third on a Drake Lee groundout, then scored when Carson Taylor singled up the middle to tie the game, 1-1.

In the fourth, UCM followed an RBI single with an RBI double and went up 3-1. It was 4-1 in the sixth on another RBI single for the Mules.

Lee led off the bottom of the sixth with a single, then he moved to second on a sac-bunt from Taylor. Haden O'Toole followed with an RBI double to deep left field and scored Lee to make it the final, 4-2.

Lee went 2-for-3 to lead the Bronchos. Trevor Rowe was 2-for-4 with a pair of singles, including one in the bottom of the ninth. Taylor and O'Toole both had one hit each to give Central Oklahoma six in the game.

The Bronchos have two more with UCM this weekend, then three at No. 28 Northwest Missouri next weekend before coming home to host the MIAA Baseball Championship at Wendell Simmons Field.
