UCO Loses Game 2 With UCM

Central Oklahoma Run-Ruled 13-2 In Seven Innings Saturday In Edmond

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma dropped Game 2 against Central Missouri 13-2 in seven innings on Saturday afternoon at Wendell Simmons Field.

UCO is now 23-23 on the season and 14-18 in the MIAA. The Bronchos will wrap up the MIAA series with UCM Sunday at 1 p.m. following a Senior Day Ceremony prior to first pitch.

Logan Taylor got the start for the Bronchos and gave up a solo home run on the fourth pitch of the game, then exited after an injury to his throwing shoulder on the fifth pitch of the game. Bron Farr made a surprise relief appearance with no outs in the top of the first inning. He did get out of the first with the game still 1-0, but UCM would continue a day-long offensive outburst on UCO's pitching staff.

Farr gave up three runs on one hit and a pair of walks in 2.0 innings pitched. Zack Hudspeth gave up two, Gage Norvell and Michael Lopez gave up one each, and Cade Perkins gave up five unearned runs. Central Missouri scored 13 runs on nine hits. UCO walked eight batters, hit three, and managed just three strikeouts in the game.

As UCM went to the bullpen in the fifth, Luke Stout led off the inning with a double down the left field line. Elijah Alexander and Gage Gilchrist both drew walks and UCM went to another reliever. Edmond's Carson Cooper came out of the bullpen and two wild pitches allowed Stout and Alexander to score and give Central Oklahoma its only two runs of the game. The Bronchos trailed 13-2 after five innings.

UCO only had two hits in the game. Haden O'Toole had one in the bottom of the first and Stout's double in the fifth was the other.

Central Oklahoma will wrap up the series with UCM on Sunday afternoon, then travel to Northwest Missouri for the final three-game series of the season next weekend. UCO is hosting the MIAA Baseball Championship at Wendell Simmons Field May 6-9. The Bronchos are currently in ninth place in the league standings, one game back of eighth place Washburn. The top 10 teams make the single elimination postseason tournament.
