Central Oklahoma Hosts Central Missouri In Final Home Series

Senior Day Sunday To Wrap Up Regular Season At Wendell Simmons Field

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma hosts Central Missouri this weekend for a three-game MIAA series at Wendell Simmons Field beginning Friday at 5 p.m.

UCO is 23-21 this season with a 14-16 record in the MIAA. No. 22 Central Missouri is 31-11 overall with a 21-9 record in the MIAA.

There are just two weeks left in the regular season. UCO is tied for eighth place and Central Missouri tied for fourth place in the MIAA standings. The top 10 teams qualify for the MIAA Baseball Championship which UCO is hosting May 6-9 in Edmond.

UCO and UCM will play Game 2 on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Game 3 is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. A Senior Day ceremony will be held prior to first pitch on Sunday.

Central Oklahoma enters this weekend averaging 7.1 runs per game off 9.2 hits per game. The Bronchos have a .294 team batting average and have 41 home runs in 44 games this season.

Drake Lee leads the team with a .433 batting average. The senior first baseman has played in 40 of 44 games and also leads the team in OPS (1.164), at bats (150), hits (65), doubles (11), home runs (44), RBIs (44), and on-base percentage (.497).

Noah Smallwood is hitting .354 on the season in 32 games played. The senior utility player has a 1.160 OPS, 35 hits in 99 at bats, and is tied with Lee for a team-high 11 doubles. Smallwood also has five home runs and a team-high four triples.

Elijah Alexander (43 hits), Colton Ayres (42), and Carson Taylor (40) are also key players on offense. Caleb Castle has 39 hits. The quartet has a bulk of Central's extra-base hits as well. Ayres has 10 doubles, Taylor nine, and Alexander and Castle both have eight doubles. Alexander has seven home runs and the other three have three homers each.

Central Oklahoma's pitching staff has a team ERA of 6.83 and the Bronchos give up 7.0 runs per game on 10.9 hits per game. UCO strikes out 7.4 batters per game and 8.0 per nine innings.

For the starting rotation, Danny Satterlee (4-4) has an 8.53 ERA with 43 strikeouts in 44 1/3 innings. Kamden Thompson (5-3) has a 6.12 ERA in 57 1/3 innings. Logan Taylor (4-3) has a 5.12 ERA with 37 strikeouts in 38 2/3 innings pitched.

Relievers Mylan Childers (31), Chase Yarger (27), and Brody Berlowitz (25), as well as Zack Hudspeth (21) and Tristan Wittau (20) are among the strikeout leaders for the Bronchos.

Central Missouri comes to Edmond averaging 9.2 runs on 10.5 hits per game this season. The Mules have a .327 team batting average. Defensively, UCM gives up 4.9 runs on 6.7 hits per game with a 4.66 ERA. The Mules average 8.8 strikeouts per game and 9.6 strikeouts per nine innings.

Central Oklahoma hosts UCM for three this weekend and then heads to Maryville, Missouri for the season finale with three games at Northwest Missouri, which is tied with the Mules for fourth place in the MIAA standings.

The MIAA Baseball Championship begins Wednesday, May 6 in Edmond with the No. 7 vs. No. 10 teams playing at 1 p.m. and the No. 8 vs. No. 9 teams. The higher advancing seed will play the No. 2 seed on Thursday with the lower advancing team playing the No. 1 seed Thursday. Four quarterfinal games are on the schedule for Thursday, May 7, the semifinals will be played on Friday, and the championship game, which comes with an automatic berth to the NCAA Central Regional, is scheduled for Saturday, May 9 at 1 p.m.
