Bronchos Host Tigers For Three-Game MIAA Series

Central Oklahoma and Fort Hays State Begin Series Friday Afternoon

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma returns home for a three-game MIAA series this weekend when the Bronchos host Fort Hays State at Wendell Simmons Field.
 
First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday. The teams will play Game 2 Saturday at 2 p.m. with Sunday's finale scheduled for noon.
 
UCO is 13-15 on the season with a 4-10 record in the MIAA. Fort Hays State is 9-19 overall this season and the Tigers from Hays, Kansas bring a 6-12 record in the MIAA to Edmond this weekend.
 
Central Oklahoma enters the weekend looking to snap a two-game slide. The Bronchos are hitting .278 as a team, averaging 6.3 runs per game on 8.8 hits per game through 28 games played this season. UCO has 248 total hits including 82 for extra bases.
 
Defensively, UCO concedes 7.5 runs per game on 11.3 hits per game. The Broncho pitching staff has a 7.11 team earned run average through 28 games and has 220 total strikeouts, 7.8 per game.
 
Noah Smallwood leads the team with a .451 batting average (17 games played). The junior infielder is 23-for-51 at the plate with eight doubles, three triples, and two home runs on the season. Drake Lee is hitting .425 in 24 games played this season. The senior first baseman is 37-for-87 at the plate with five doubles and five home runs. Lee has a team-high 21 RBIs this season. Junior shortstop Caleb Castle has 20 RBIs. Junior outfielder Colton Ayres leads the team with 22 runs scored, one more than Lee, this season.
 
UCO starters Kamden Thompson (3-3), Danny Satterlee (1-3), and Logan Taylor (1-2) enter the weekend aimed at getting the Bronchos in position to win. Braxton Jones made four starts before an injury and is 2-0 with a team-high 32 strikeouts.
 
Fort Hays State's offense comes to Edmond with a .296 batting average, posting 7.3 runs per game off 10.3 hits per game. The Tigers' pitching staff has an 8.43 ERA and allows 8.8 runs per game off 10.9 hits per contest.
 
Central Oklahoma hosts Fort Hays State for three games this weekend and will be back on the road next week. The Bronchos visit 15th-ranked Rogers State on Tuesday in Claremore, Oklahoma, and will play at Missouri Southern April 2-4 in Joplin, Missouri.
