Bronchos Beat In Bricktown

Central Oklahoma Hosted Rogers State At Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark Tuesday Night

OKLAHOMA CITY – A tough start put UCO in a bind Tuesday night when the Bronchos lost 13-6 to No. 15 Rogers State in an MIAA matchup played at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

UCO dropped to 12-12 on the season and is now 3-7 in the MIAA. The Rogers State Hillcats from Claremore improved to 21-3 on the season with a 9-1 record in league play. Tuesday night was the 13th consecutive win for RSU.

Central intended on using its bullpen to work through the midweek contest. Chase Yarger got the start and surrendered five runs on five hits while recording just two outs in the start.

UCO got two back in the second and would eventually add two in the seventh and ninth innings. But Rogers padded the lead with one run in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, and then put up another five-run frame in the ninth.

The Bronchos used eight pitchers in the game, giving up 13 runs on 12 hits and a season-high 10 walks. UCO did strikeout four batters with Bron Farr recording one early and Mylan Childers recording three during his 1.2 innings of work.

The Bronchos finished with 10 hits, led by Gage Gilchrist's two off the bench. The senior left-handed bat pinch-hit in the seventh inning and hit an RBI double to right field. He later scored and also scored after a ninth-inning single.

Eight other Bronchos all had one hit. Noah Smallwood, Wyatt Yetter, and Cade Mills each had doubles along with Gilchrist.

Mills' double in the second scored Yetter and Stout to make it 5-2. Gilchrist scored Smallwood to make it 8-3 in the seventh. Kade Sheldon's sacrifice fly scored Gilchrist to make it 8-4 later that inning.

Gilchrist scored again in the ninth to make it 13-5 when Colton Ayres reached on a fielder's choice. Ayres scored on a fielding error later in the inning to make it the final, 13-6.

Central Oklahoma will hit the road for the weekend as the Bronchos take on Pittsburg State for a three-game MIAA series beginning Friday in Pittsburg, Kansas. The PSU Gorillas are ranked No. 1 in the country in two media polls while landing No. 2 in this week's ABCA coaches' poll.
