Estela Castillo Named MIAA Women's Golfer of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Central Oklahoma junior Estela Castillo was named MIAA Women's Golfer of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

Castillo finished sixth at the Diffee Ford-Lincoln Invite hosted by Southern Nazarene at KickingBird Golf Club in Edmond. The Palma, Spain native shot a 7-over-par 147 after two trips around the course.

On Monday, Castillo started the day with four straight pars before sinking a bird on the Par 4 No. 5. She sank nine more par putts before finishing with a 3-over 73. On Tuesday, she came back and was 3-over after two holes but settled in with seven straight pars. Castillo then had four birdies on the back nine and ended up with a 4-over 74.

Castillo has a 76.6 scoring average through 14 rounds of golf this season. She's finished in the Top 10 in three consecutive tournaments, including a career-best second-place finish last month in Houston.

Central Oklahoma is competing in the Emerald Coast Collegiate in Destin, Florida March 8-10.
