Estela Castillo Leads UCO Through First Day Of Southern Invite

Central Oklahoma Is In 11th Place In Team Standings Heading Into Tuesday's Final Round

SPRING, Texas – Central Oklahoma junior Estela Castillo posted a 1-under 71 in the second round of the Southern Invite Monday to jump up the leaderboard and is in sixth place heading into Tuesday's final round.

Central Oklahoma is in 11th place in the 15-team event. The Bronchos posted rounds of 312 and 310 on Monday. It's the first event of the spring for UCO, which is hosting the tournament at Cypresswood Golf Club.

UT Tyler is in first place after 36 holes with a 582 (285-297). Dallas Baptist is 11 shots back in second place at 593, while Rogers State (605), Henderson State (609), and St. Mary's (610) round out the top five.

Castillo opened Monday with a 5-over-par 77 but came back firing in the second round with a 1-under 71, a season-best for the junior from Spain. She started on the 11th hole and bogeyed No. 13, but after nine consecutive par putts, Castillo sank a birdie putt on the par-5 fifth to get to even. She sank another birdie putt on the par-4 10th to finish the round in the red.

Layne Ailshie posted back-to-back rounds of 76 on Monday. The sophomore is in 22nd place at 8-over in the tournament. Ailshie had six birdies on the day.

Grace Hall (18-over 162) and MaKaylee Cowan (19-over 163) are also competing to help the Bronchos. Scarlet Sturch turned in an 8-over 80 in the first round but could not finish the second round. Reagan Plank is competing as an individual and is tied with Hall at 18-over through 36 holes.
