UCO Heads To Norman For J.D. Martin Invitational

Bronchos Competing At OU In Third Indoor Meet of Season

NORMAN, Okla. – Central Oklahoma is back for its second meet in as many weeks Thursday when the Bronchos take on the J.D. Martin Invitational at OU's Mosier Indoor Facility.

The event was moved up from Friday due to expected weather disruptions in the Oklahoma City area this weekend. UCO is sending 13 student-athletes to Norman to compete in seven different events.

Charis Phillips will get the day started with the long jump at 10:30 a.m. She'll return for the triple jump scheduled for 3:15 p.m. A freshman from Arlington, Texas, Phillips has recorded a 5.20m performance in the long jump and an 11.20m in the triple jump this season.

Abigail Kelly is the only other field athlete and will compete in the shot put at 11 a.m. In one event this season she recorded a 11.50m throw. The junior from Edmond has a career-high of 11.91 meters last January.

Maya Conrad, Deriayah Lee, Amiya Hill, McKenna Huston, and Reta Ojene are all scheduled to run in the 400m at just after 1 p.m. Thursday. Lee's 59.90 earlier this season is a team best.

Five other Bronchos – Marley Battles, Zakeirah Johnson, Mikayla Stephenson, Jaelynne Knighton, and Lauryn Thaggard – are scheduled to race in the 60-meter dash at 2:25 p.m. Johnson leads the team with a 7.74-second time earlier this season.

Lee and Tyana Hymes are listed for the 60-meter hurdles after 3 p.m. Lee has the better time this season at 8.98 seconds.

Ojene, Stephenson, Conrad, Hymes, Hill, Battles, Huston, Thaggard, and Jaelynne Knighton are all entered in the 200m to end the day at 4 p.m. Johnson's 25.61-second mark is the team-best through two events this season.

Central Oklahoma is competing in three consecutive weeks in the month of January and Thursday's meet in Norman is the second of that stretch. The Bronchos will be in Pittsburg, Kansas next weekend to take on the Pittsburg State Invitational.
